This is an epithelial subset (KRT8+) that shares some traits with the other secretory clusters, such as MARCKSL1, but one of its highest DE genes compared to other epithelial cells is CCL20, which is a maturation marker for M cells in the lymphoid follicle associated epithelia. It also expresses SPIB, a canonical marker of M cells It also expresses some TNF receptor signaling proteins, such as NFKBIA. These could be maturing follicle associated M cells or mature M cells, we are not sure.

Set of Labels Description
In this paper we used an automated iterative subclustering algorithm to find hundreds of cell state clusters, after which we merged unsupported clusters and annotated each resulting cluster with a better-known cell subtype. The high-res cell state clusters are annotated as subtype.gene1.gene2, so in some cases we didn't directly name some commonly named subtypes, such as pericytes. When we run DE on the resulting subtypes, we find many canonical and scRNA-suggested marker genes.
