The Human Cell Atlas Kidney (HCKA) v1 is a comprehensive single-cell reference of the human kidney, integrating ~1 million cells from 18 datasets with healthy tissue and multiple disease states, including AKI, glomerulonephritis, transplant rejection, polycystic kidney disease, and diabetic kidney disease. Using a harmonized analysis framework, the atlas defines 123 kidney cell populations. This resource provides a high-resolution map of kidney cellular diversity and disease mechanisms, serving as a reference for the study of kidney function and pathology. The atlas includes both single-cell and single-nucleus datasets, which are harmonized at the cell type annotation level to align identities across modalities while preserving modality-specific data structures, enabling unbiased cross-platform comparisons.
The single cell integrated object of the HCKA contains ~800000 cells and 105 high resolution celltypes. This part of the atlas contains healthy and disease states from transplant rejection, glomerulonephritis and acute kidney injury.
The single nucleus integrated object of the HCKA contains ~200000 cells and 63 high resolution celltypes. This part of the HCKA contains healthy and disease states from diabetic kidney, polycystic kidney and acute kidney injury.
