Marker Gene Evidence
Gene markers used by researcher to assign this cell annotation.- SFTPA2, SFTPC
Canonical Marker Genes
- SFTPC
Rationale
- AT2 cells display very specific functional and morphological features. They synthetisize surfactant proteins. At the mRNA level, expression of SFTPA2 and SFTPC is high. Other epithelial cells from the respiratory bronchioles can also express some surfactant genes (SFTPB and SFTPC), but only AT2 cells express a combibation of several SFTP genes.
