Enterocytes here are the absorptive epithelial cells of the small intestine. These express high levels of keratin and mitochondrial genes and are unique in each suborgan - duodenum and ileum. We should think about how to categorize duodenal vs. jejunal vs ileal enterocytes. EPCAM is the lineage defining marker here but does not appear in single cell data. Here, enterocytes are subdivided into early and late lifecycle subtypes, when neither of these can be determined, the broader label is used
