Provide Annotation Feedback

Annotation feedback reflects an overall agreement with a cluster annotation. Use it to suggest a new cell type annotation or highlight too broad or too fine-grained cell type annotations. If the assigned cell type is generally correct but annotation metadata needs improvement (for example, marker gene lists), use metadata refinement instead.

The sections below show how to provide annotation feedback.

Open the feedback panel

Select the cell type of interest on the Molecular Data page and click Provide Feedback. You can then choose one of three options: Agree, Disagree, or I don't know.

Submit an agreement

To agree with an annotation, select Agree, optionally add a comment, and click Send My Feedback.

Submit a disagreement

The Disagree option is more nuanced. Use Split when the annotation is too broad, and Merge when it is too fine-grained. For general disagreement that does not fit either case, use Disagree with a Comment.

Start by selecting Disagree, then choose the path that best matches your concern.

Submit a split disagreement

Use Disagree: Split to suggest dividing a broad annotation into finer cell types. Then specify the number of proposed cell types and, optionally, provide cell labels, marker genes, and a free-text explanation for each suggested annotation.

Submit a merge disagreement

Use Disagree: Merge to suggest combining an annotation that is too fine-grained into a single one. Then select the other cell types to merge, click Continue Providing Feedback, and provide an explanation. When finished, click Send My Feedback.

Submit a general disagreement

Use Disagree with a Comment for general disagreement with an annotation. Provide an explanation and click Send My Feedback.

Submit "I don't know"

Use I don't know to indicate that you are not ready to draw a conclusion. You may optionally include an explanation, or simply click Send My Feedback.

Delete submitted feedback

If needed, you can delete your feedback by clicking on the feedback you would like to delete in the side panel and clicking Delete Feedback in the pop-up window.
